Historical Society Ice Cream Social July 6, 2008

As a part of their July Open House the society will host an afternoon of games, intertainment and of course ICE CREAM. Come join us from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Young Ladies Victorian Tea

We will repeat this program for 3rd and 4th graders again this year on June 12. It is limited to 15 girls so make your reservations early. Cost is $30.00 this year. Call 330-722-1341 for more information and a signup form. Experience a Victorian Tea with a little history and crafting at the John Smart House, home of the Medina County Historical Soceity.

Memorial Day Parade

Come on down on June 26, 2008 to honor our service men and women. The parade starts at 10 a.m. If you would like join us as we form up at Garfield School (at 9 a.m.) and march with us. Come in costume or not, but show your support both for the community and for the society.

Band Concert - June 13, 2008

The Medina County Historical Society will host the June 13th Band Concert by the Medina Community Band. Come early and enjoy some pie, an ice cream cone or a brownie with some great ice cream.

New Medina City History Book Available

There is now available a new photographic history book on the city of Medina. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Community Design Committee (CDC), Medina author Gloria Brown wrote this new history of the city using photos from the CDC, the Medina County Historical Society (MCHS) and private collections. The book is a part of Arcadia Publiishing Company series "Images of America."

The book is available from the MCHS, PO Box 306, Medina, Ohio 44258-0306 for $20.00 plus $3.00 S&H.

2008 Programs

May 12, 2008 - Eric Daiber will present a program on Charles Lindbergh, from his days delivering airmail to his historic flight over the Atlanic. 7:30 P.M. at the Medina Library.

June 9, 2008 - annual picnic with the MC Genealogical Society at Stone Garden Farm, home of the Museum of Western Reserve Farms and Equipment, 2891 Southern Road, Richfield, Ohio. We will picnic at 6:30 and then begin our tour. If you would like to look around before we eat you may.

July and August no meetings

September 8, 2008 - Member Rose Platz will present a talk on her trip with her husband to Kenya. We are again at the Medina Library, start time 7:30 P.M.

Hours of Operation

The John Smart House is open Tuesday and Thrusday from 9:am to 5pm. throughout the year.

The public is always welcome to come tour the house during these hours and on the first Sunday of the month (1pm to 4pm, not open Sundays in January and February and holiday weekend during the year - consult the calendar if you are not sure).

Researchers are welcome Tuesday and Thursday during normal hours.

Research during the Sunday open house is with prior notice.

If coming any distance please call (330-722-1341) first. There are times when the curator is away for talks, outside meetings or there is a special tour scheduled.

Also consult the calendar, we will try to keep any closings posted!
